Careers

“Plan for the future because that's where you are going to spend the rest of your life.”

Mark Twain, American writer

Young people today have more choice about what to do in the future than ever before and it is more critical than ever that we are working with students to develop the skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to be successful in the world of work in the 21st Century.  Our aim is to provide parents, carers and our students with independent, impartial advice to allow the young people in our care to make well informed, realistic decisions about their future and plan accordingly.

Much of our careers work is done through Personal Development & Careers lessons (PD&C), with modules being taught in every year group.  The opportunities to develop these skills are numerous and varied across all year groups.

Careers programme

We believe that developing employability skills is critical to ensuring that students are prepared for the workplace.   As a result, we have committed to all students in Year 10 and Year 12 undertaking a work experience placement.  This allows them to develop (and also evidence) the vital transferable skills which future employers are looking for.

There are a wide number of additional activities planned to prepare our students for the world of work such as mock interviews in Year 11 as well as careers interviews that take place throughout year 8-13.  We have a registered Level 6 Careers Advisor Team (Progress Careers)  available to support students and parents with information, advice and guidance.  Further information can be requested via the following methods; via email from daintyl@elizabethan.notts.sch.uk or telephone 01777 713700 ext 58.

The school measures and assesses the impact of the careers programme on pupils through the Gatsby Benchmark Process carried out 3 times per year.

The member of SLT with overall responsibility for Careers is Mr L Dainty - daintyl@elizabethan.notts.sch.uk or 01777 713700 ext 58.
