Work Experience

Shaping Futures Through Real-World Learning

At The Elizabethan Sixth Form, we believe that education should extend beyond the classroom. That’s why we place a strong emphasis on work experience in Year 12—a vital part of our commitment to preparing students for life after Sixth Form.

Why Work Experience Matters

Work experience is more than just a week in the workplace. It’s a transformative opportunity for students to:

  • Explore career pathways and discover what truly inspires them.
  • Gain practical skills such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving.
  • Build confidence and independence in professional environments.
  • Strengthen university and apprenticeship applications with real-world insight.
  • Make informed decisions about future study and employment.

Whether students are aiming for competitive university courses, vocational routes, or direct employment, work experience helps them connect their studies to the world beyond school.

Our Commitment to Every Student

We are proud to offer a structured and inclusive work experience programme that reflects our belief in equity and ambition for all. Every Year 12 student is expected to take part in a meaningful placement, and we support them every step of the way.

Our programme includes:

  • Dedicated Work Experience Week during the summer term.
  • Guidance and resources to help students secure placements aligned with their interests.
  • Support with CV writing, employer outreach, and interview preparation.
  • Flexible options, including in-person, hybrid, and virtual placements to suit different industries and student needs.

We encourage students to take ownership of their placement search, developing initiative and resilience—key qualities for future success. For those who need additional support, our Careers Team is always available to help.

Making It Count

To ensure the experience is impactful, students are encouraged to:

  • Set personal goals for their placement.
  • Keep a reflective log of their activities, achievements, and learning.
  • Share their experiences with peers and staff to inspire others.

Feedback from employers and students consistently highlights the value of our programme not just in developing employability skills, but in shaping aspirations and broadening horizons.

“This experience has shown me just how varied and exciting the world of work can be. It’s helped me realise what I want to do—and how to get there.”
