16-19 Study Programme

How does the Elizabethan Sixth Form meet the requirements of the 16 – 19 study programme?

Requirement:

All ESFA funded education for 16 to 19 year olds should be delivered as a study programme which combines qualifications and other activities, and which is tailored to each student’s prior attainment and career goals. Every study programme must have a core aim. For the majority of students, this will be either the study of substantial technical, applied or academic qualification(s) or preparation for employment.

The Elizabethan Sixth Form evidence:

All Elizabethan Sixth Form curriculum routes are Level 3 programmes, which are composed of a wide variety of academic qualifications. They are designed to stretch students and prepare them for their next level of education or employment and are made up from traditional A levels, T Levels and range of Applied courses.  Our subjects are not blocked initially allowing students to choose a mixture of both A level and Applied courses should they wish to.

All of our Sixth Form students, both internal and external, are interviewed at the application stage to ensure that each study programme is tailored towards their prior attainment and career goals.

Students who do not hold a GCSE grade 4 in maths and/or English are required to continue these subjects as part of their study programme. Students are provided with time on their timetables to study and retake these subjects. In addition, we also encourage students who did not attain a grade 5 in either subject to elect to join these classes to widen the opportunities available to them post Sixth Form.

All study programmes include work experience in Year 12 and non-qualification activities which complement their academic programme. These include, Personal Development (PD) sessions, a wide range of weekly enrichment activities and Tutor Period, all of which develop students’ character, skills, attitudes and confidence and support their progress on to higher education or employment.
